St Lythans's and Tinkinswood Burial Chambers Tinkinswood is about 30 feet long and 18 feet wide with an enormous 50 ton capstone - 24ft x 15ft (the largest in Britain). St. Lythans is about a mile away past duffryn gardens and is a neolithic tomb known as Gwal-y-Filiast (Greyhound Bitch's Kennel) - it was once used apparently as an animal shelter. Both tombs are in muddy fields so don't forget your wellies! Approx 3 miles west of city on the A48.Turn left at traffic lights in Bonvilston and follow signs. Tinkinswood is about half a mile down duffryn lane on the left. St Lythans is further on past duffryn house and left at the 'T' junction. It sits in a field on the right about 400 yards past the junction. |

Flat Holm Island Flat Holm sits just a few miles to the South of Cardiff but few Cardiffians or visitors ever make the trip. This fascinating island makes an ideal venue for a day out with the kids. There are slow worms and seagulls by the tens of thousand so take a hat! (no really - do, they dive bomb and poo on you if you walk too near their nesting areas). There are Victorian Cannons, a lighthouse and foghorn and a visitor centre with a small cafe. |

Beaupre Castle Beaupre Castle started life as a medieval and then a Tudor manor house. It's a wonderfully evocative place to visit on a hot summer afternoon and contains a beautifully preserved tudor gatehouse. It's not much visited because of its isolated location (although only 10 miles from cardiff) and because it's a fair walk across fields to reach. Free Admission |
