Flat Holm is inhabited by a huge seagull colony and the absence of predators means that they are happy to nest on the ground. During the breeding season, you have to be careful where you step to avoid eggs and chicks and a hat is essential to avoid being dive-bombed or pooed on! The island has a visitor centre where you can get drinks and snacks. As of 2012, Flat Holm can also boast Wales' most southerly pub. The Gull and Leek occupies part of the Victorian barracks and allows visitors to down a pint after working up a thirst wandering around the island. As well as day visits, Flat Holm also offers overnight stays for everything from meditation to survival classes and kids birthday parties. |

The Island is only a 45 minute boat trip from Cardiff

Gulls nest everywhere at ground level as there are no Predators on the Island

Old buildings - Some of the old Victorian Barracks have been converted to visitor accommodation.

The ruined cholera hospital - cases from ships would be brought to the island to prevent infection on the mainland

The old farmhouse - Now modernised and serving teas and snacks as well as offering accommodation. In summer 2012, the Island aquired it's own pub, the Gull and Leek.

The disused Trinity House foghorn on Flatholm. Still in full working order but now obsolete with the advent of radar.

Seagulls - Flat holm is a safe breeding ground for these birds and is home to many thousands.
