St
David's Hall
Situated on
the Hayes in the heart of the city centre shopping area, St David's
Hall is a 2000 seat concert venue. The unusual design of the building
to fit its tight space on top of the St David's shopping centre
means you're never too far from the stage although some of the higher
seats are not great if you suffer vertigo. No onsite parking but
there are public car parks within a short walk.

Wales
Millenium Centre
The WMC or
'armadillo' is a 1900 seater purpose-built concert venue in the
bay. It's home to the Welsh National Opera and stages several productions
a year. If your idea of fun is sitting for hours while people with
a high body mass index shout at each other in Italian, you could
try these sopranos for a change. No onsite parking but there are
public car parks within a short walk.

New
Theatre
Cardiff's Edwardian
New Theatre celebrated its 100th birthday in 2006. It's a great
place to see plays and musicals as it has a much more intimate atmosphere
than St Davids Centre and the Millenium Centre although you pay
for this with reduced leg room.
No on-site
parking but public parking within a short walk. New Theatre, Park
Place, Cardiff, CF10 3LN Box Office 029 2087 8889 Recorded Info

Sherman
Theatre
The Sherman
adjoins the Student's Union in Senghenydd Road near the city centre
and shares its 'fuhrerbunker' construction style. The forbidding
outside hides a surprisingly warm interior though and the theatre
is a pleasant place to see 'artier' productions as well as new writers
and comedians.
No on-site
parking but public parking within a short walk. Next to Cathays
Railway Station. Sherman Theatre, Senghenydd Road, Cardiff, CF24

There were
many more old cinemas in Cardiff but these closed in fairly recent
memory are amongst the most fondly recalled..
Double bills,
'X' and 'A' films, the Pathe or Movitone News and the Saturday
morning kid's shows were part of our lives along with Kia-Ora
in those little plastic pots with their lethally sharp plastic
straws.
